Overview

The reconstruction of Autumn Glen Lodge and Poplar Grove Court in Innisfail, Alberta, consists of a new 60-unit lodge and a 30-unit self-contained living facility, designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

A key challenge was constructing the new facility on a limited portion of the existing site to ensure residents were not displaced during construction. To address this, the design team developed a three-storey building concept that could be completed before demolishing the existing structures. The result was a thoughtfully designed, modern facility that enhances the community while providing a comfortable and sustainable living space for residents.

Shunda’s collaborative approach was critical to overcoming site constraints and maintaining the project schedule while minimizing financial impacts. The project was executed in multiple phases to limit disruption to residents, demonstrating the team's adaptability in working within an occupied environment. Additionally, proximity to a hospital and helipad required coordination with NAV Canada, an uncommon challenge that was successfully navigated through proactive planning.

The project serves as a model for sustainable, community-focused development, reinforcing Shunda’s expertise in delivering complex projects with minimal disruption.
