Overview

The new Delia K-12 School was constructed to replace the original 1955 school and the additional modulars which were added over its history. The total building area including the main floor and a second floor mechanical mezzanine was 2,798 square meters. The new school was constructed with the existing school just meters away which remained fully operational throughout construction, with the exception of a Covid-19 shutdown. Despite being constructed during the Covid-19 lockdown, the protections and protocols that Shunda initiated, as well as complete buy-in by all of the trades and stakeholders, allowed the building to be completed five months ahead of schedule. This enabled the students and staff to move into a modern facility with up-to-date HVAC systems that helped ease the transition from online learning back to in-person learning. The facility design included a library adjacent to the main entry that can be used by the community as a shared public space. A new multi-use area was also constructed next to the new gymnasium which was completely funded by the community.
